It has opened up a whole new world. May it be possitive or negative, it surely made an impact. Awareness and acceptance has been an ongoing effort. Much good has been done and equally much disaster had happened. It is so much a part of our current society that we cannot simply ignore it and pretend that it does not exist. Some hates it so much that they curse at it. Others benefitted from it to the point that they would promote and advocate it. Some would just tolerate it for they know that it will never go away.

I notice all the responses looked at the question from the negative point of view and defensively. So, I will take the high road: Homosexuality affects our society by making it more fun, more colorful, more interesting, more diverse, kinder, gentler, less bigoted, and more charitable. If it wasn't for gay people, everything would be painted beige, covered in garbage, and fashion, art, and beauty wouldn't be half of what it is. I bet there isn't one single thing you've purchased, bought, and used that hasn't been touched in some way by a proud homosexual.

Homosexuality does not affect our society, but discussion about homosexuality does. Obviously people get really worked up about the topic, but really it does not affect anyone's day to day life if there is a lesbian couple living down the street.
The important thing for a society is to ensure everyone finds a productive place. Our society is stronger by including minorities, by giving women rights. We'd be even stronger if we stop alienating homosexuals.

Well as long as they don't try and suck us into their society, to each his own. Most are good hard working people who do not take from society, but contribute to the betterment of it. As long as they do that, leave them alone. That is my opinion. I have several acquaintences who are. I can't say they are close friends, because I do not hang out with them. They have even been over to our house for dinner. One is a doctor.
