I notice a lot of americans on here bashing america. I don't mean it funny, but the only way that can be happening is if you are really completely ignorant to most of the rest of the world. Anyone here should be damn thankful. Yes we have issues here, but compare it to Africa, Asia, the Middle-east? C'mon. Instead of wasting your time bitching get up and do something about the things you don't like, or better yet, just try to be grateful and maybe try to help with some of the problems of the many nations who are so much worse of that they cannot even grasp the ease in which we live in America. Grow up, get informed, and get involved.

This question does not need to be made into a racism forum...as a white woman in america i understand racism is an issue, but more and more so is reverse racism (which is and idiotic term, racism is racism period). Either way, it's still not something to sit around a b***h about.

Obviously people are misunderstanding, I'm not saying get on your knees and be thankful for every wrong that goes on in this country, but if it bothers you bad enought that you will go on a public forum to complain, then take that time instead and start doing something about it.

I'm done with this question because obviously people are to self absorbed and self rightous to understand what I'm saying. So if you take the time to read these answers and notice that most of them are the people I was talking about in the first place...feel free to point it out to them. You really made my point for me people, everyone of you that took all the time to right bitter answers listing all the complaints you have, not one of you said one thing your doing to try to make the situation right........Point Proven...thank you...

Didn't you just hit the nail on the head!
Before enlisting in the army many years ago I think I was one of the ungrateful ones. Didn't have much respect for citizens, hated paying taxes and only really liked working on my car.
After spending two years in Asia, I became an indigenous entrepreneur of sorts, in other words, I just loved getting involved with people of other lands and would make friends with the natives every chance I got.
This may sound stupid or shallow but what I reflect on most about those times are the way people of "third world" countries went about their daily activities. Of those, it never failed to astound me that; not only did they live on dirt floors but, would actually clean and sweep them.
When you ask why so many ungrateful, I wonder why people of other lands feel so grateful and are able to even get up in the morning... To sweep a dirt floor?
They get up to live and that's what so many of our fellow Americans can't see. I think this is all a part of "Future Shock". We who witness it are the ones in shock, not the ungrateful ones... At least not yet!

I am grateful that due to Affirmative Action, I am not even considered for a job in which I have 30 years experience.
I am so glad an unwed 22 year old with 3 kids from 3 different men, will get the job as well as Food Stamps, subidized housing and vouchers for free heating oil all winter.
They need the money more than I do and are much more deserving...
I am grateful to know that having worked since I was 14, I will *NEVER EVER*be able to retire. I will have to work until the day I die, at some crappy minimum wage job because there will be no Social Security for me to depend upon, even tho I have been paying into it for 35 years.
I am grateful to know we are paying almost $3 a gallon for gas, when in some countries it is around 12 cents a gallon.
I am grateful to know that because I am a middle aged white male, I do not qualify for more that $7 a month in food stamps, if I can make it thru the 6 weeks of interviews (interrogations) required to obtain them.
I am grateful and proud to know I am among the most hated population in the world, as an American.
*IF* I could ever afford to travel abroad, for my own safety I would have to tell people I am Canadian.

I am grateful for all the things I have achieved by working harder and harder every year for less and less money.
I am grateful I have not been shot to death in a Shopping Mall.
I am grateful that my serious medical conditions have not killed me yet, even tho I cannot afford the crappy HMO insurance offered by by employer, that would eat 1/3 of my paycheck, plus co-payments.
I am grateful not to have to be bothered with yard work or home repairs now that my home was forclosed on when my taxes shot up almost 30% a year for 4 years in a row and the mortgage company put a lien on the house while I was in the hospital. I was put out in the street by the bank and they, in turn, sold the place for 3 times more than what I owed.
I am grateful I had a 17 year old car to live in while homeless.
I am grateful, even tho my TINY apartment is so expensive I have to mooch food from friends and have not had any furniture other than a bed, 2 chairs and a computer... on a desk I found in the trash... for the past 3 years.
I am grateful that the interest on my one credit card is only 27%.
This was how I paid for my prescriptions and food and gas when I had to live in my car.
I am grateful that I am too old to be sent to a war that we pretty much started, have no business being in and are losing at the cost of thousands of innocent lives and billions of dollars.
There are so many more things to be grateful for as an American. I can't even count them.

Oh my, ... let me see...
I get to live with my grandson and his partner because I can't afford a place to live.
.
Even though I worked my tail off for over 60 (SIXTY) years, I get a social security check for $673 a month!
It doesn't even pay for half of my prescriptions, let alone food or shelter.
I had to have my beloved dog put to sleep because I could not afford medicine for him.
I can't afford new clothes. We shop at Goodwill.
I am not able to drive anymore because I got mugged at a supermarket 2 years ago and no longer have feeling in my right leg from being kicked in the back repeatedly... all for $14 in my purse.
I am grateful that carbon monoxide poisoning is odorless. You just fall asleep permanently.
I am grateful I have a small amount left on my only credit card so I will be able to rent a car... (not supposed to drive), rent a large storage space, back the car in, close the door and sit in the car with the engine running when I can't take it anymore.
So yes, I guess I do have a LOT to be grateful for.
Thanks for asking this question.
You really brightened up my day.

I would love to give a damn, but OK, make it easy for me to get my education without hiking the prices so damn high that some of us can't make the tuition even with Scholarships. I'm all for capitalism, but when you're pricing potential students out of an education. that's wrong, so I guess you'll be there to sponsor a scholarship I suppose, I know I will when I get enough money to spend on one student. I don't mind america, hell it could be worse, I could be in Iraq, right? I could be in North Korea. well, I'm pretty informed and you are probably one of those that are so brainwashed you think that we should keep quiet about america. well that's the great thing about a democracy, you can say whatever you want. if I have a complaint about why my taxes are so high, yet my wage isnt' getting any higher because I'm not educated because I can't afford to pay for school because of why, my job won't pay me enough. America is just too much someitmes. We are a bit too spoiled here in America, true, but would I give it up to live in Iraq, hell no.
I'm not ungrateful, but I won't be so appreciative to be taken for a sucker by corporations that love exploiting us by breaking our backs while they sit on their $20,000 executive chairs smoking a Cohiba keeping me broke. we have the right to speak our minds, amendment number one so please, be compassionate or leave. I doubt the people complaining about this are ignorant. there's tons of information on the internet and you can get it for free at a library. we as american are getting outpriced by any and everybody that can take the chance at it. the insurance rates are going up while the wages are still not enough for most of america. everything's going up in the burgeoning economy yet alot of american workers are finding selves scrounging for money? we aren't ungrateful, we are as informed as the next, if not more, immigrant that swore themselves in. if anything, you're very uninformed, my friend, read a book, read the Economist, do something, but don't talk with such ignorance

Here here! I love it here. I can go down to the store and buy anything from any country I wish. I can bash my city officials without having to worry about reprisals. I can even choose the physician I want or start any business I feel like starting. No place is perfect, but we're as close to perfect as you'll ever get!

i'm gonna could use somebody else's words for this one. Until ALL Americans have a hot car, a nice house, over $100,000 in savings, a 401k over $1,000,000, a couple iPods, a plasma T.V. or two, a mobile GPS, two or more cell phones, all the food they can eat, a playstation 3, and a Nintendo Wii; I don't think we have anything to be thankful for.

I am not ungrateful. I love my country...it's the politicians I cannot stand. It's like John Mayer's song "Waiting on the world to change".
Yes, I can improve my community, maybe even my state, but can I get much farther than that?
