Floppy
CD
DVD
Tape
Floppies can be anything from 128K up to 2.88MB depending on the floppy and the drive reading them.
CDs are normally around 700MB although I've seen 850MB disks
DVDs are 4.7GB or double that for dual layer disks
Tapes vary according to which tape drive they are for. I once had a tape drive that used 250MB tapes. I now use a DAT drive using 40GB tapes and also a DLT drive that uses 320GB tapes.
I'm certain there will be larger format drives available for mini computers and mainframes.
You've missed out solid state devices such as memory sticks. They started off at 16MB and can go all the way up to 8GB. It won't be long before they take over from DVDs as the dominant media type in computing and home entertainment.
If you're getting 3 hours of video on a standard DVD, imagine what you could get on a 32GB memory stick, half the size of a pack of gum!

Hi, people seem to be forgetting the difference between dual layer and single layer dvd's:-
1> Floppy disk, 1.44mb formatted for pc, 2.0mb unformatted (space is used for File Allocation Table, Boot Sector, ETC.)
2> Tape, can be as low as a few hundred megabytes, and up to hundreds of gigabytes, depending on age and media type
3> CD-ROM, usually between 650 - 700mb for a standard cd, not including mini-cd, credit card cd, and other variations.
4>DVD, single layer disks are 4.7gb, dual layer disks are 9.5gb.
Most dvd movies are dual layer, hence you find dvd compression software to fit a movie on a single layer dvd, or a cd.
5> Tape, can be as low as a few hundred megabytes, and up to hundreds of gigabytes, depending on age and media type
If this question is for an assignment or such, I would expect that they are talking about more modern media and would think it would go, floppy, cd, dvd, tape

Floppy = 1.44MB
CD-ROM = 650-800MB
DVD = 4.7GB or 9.4GB (dual layer)
TAPE = Largest I've seen is 800GB
Of course, hard drives are probably the best storage you can get - the largest size of a single disk is currently 750GB with 1000GB (1TB) coming within a year or two.
You can also add Blu Ray DVD's at 25GB (single layer) 50GB (dual layer) and HD DVD at 20GB (single layer) 40GB (dual layer) - I think that's right? don't quote me though huh?
So:
Floppy, CD-ROM, DVD, HD DVD, Blu Ray, Hard Disk, Tape.
