I'm going to buy a fridge this weekend. Can I use my suv to take it home? I was told that you have to transport a fridge standing up. Is this so?

It is best to have it standing but if you must lay it on it's side you need to be careful and not hit any hard bumps or you could cause damage inside the compressor. The pump and motor in the compressor are suspended on springs and hitting hard bumps can stretch or break a spring or two and possibly a component. You should also allow the unit to sit upright for at least an hour before turning it on to allow the oil to return to the compressor. If you do not allow the oil to return to the compressor it could be severely damaged.

it is best to transport the fridge standing....it has to do with the gas inside the fridge....if you do lie it down make sure you leave the fridge standing for a few hours before you turn it on...that will give the gas inside the fridge time to resettle.....

Yes, you were told correctly. DO NOT transport on side for various reasons. Believe me, you will void the warranty and everything else if you attempt to transport on side. Have it delivered if you are unable to transport it standing up.

We had to do the same with a freezer. We let it sit for 24+ hours before trying to plug it in and turn it on. They tell you to keep them upright and level, but not always possible during transportation. Our freezer was fine by the way

Yes, you can. When it you get it to the destination, leave it standing up for atleast an hour. This is so that the oil can settle back down in the motor. You can plug it in right away, but you could damage the motor.

Cheers!
