HEY Y'ALL, my friend was worried about stds, so she went for a pelvic examination and got tested for all vanereal diseases, including h.i.v! she had tested negative for all the vanereal diseases, but the doctors said her pap test came back with abnormal cells, which the doctor described as Moderate Dysplasia. we got so worried and we were told that she'd need a biopsy to confirm the cause of the abnormality. my friend had a pap test about 2 years before and it was normal, so the doctor found it strange as to how it could come from normal to moderate as opposed to going in stages! she got her biopsy/colposcopy and the results came back with abnormal cells, but less abnormal than before! to me it was positive as it seems her cells are going back to normal! what do u think? she now has to take another pap test! also out of curiosity if a person is inh.iv positive do thir cell abnormalities get worse, too? my friend needs help, please help her understand what could be wrong with her cervix

I had the same thing...there is no need to worry. The worst thing that could happen is cervical cancer which I've heard is easily cured...but that's jumping way ahead. When my pap test came back abnormal they did a biopsy and I was also told of a few areas of mod. dysplasia...
They ended up freezing my cervix which helps shed the lining of the cervix and I was fine after that. Usually after they do that the doctor will recommend her getting a pap about every 3-4 months to make sure her paps are normal after that. I have had no problems since my procedure.
This is all most likely caused by HPV, which I was told by my nurse that there is no way to test men for and they will never show any sort of signs or symptoms ...so if a man gets it from a woman he will never know and keep on spreading it...usually women don't know either until she receives an abnormal pap...at least I didn't. So many people have this... I believe this is not a permanent thing...and this has nothing to do with HIV. She really needs to talk everything over with her doctor, he can explain everything better than I can.

Only a confirmatory test could do that for you. Find a third opinion and then, that is where you can base what treatment she should be selecting. The paps smear is the basis of everything in your question. We could never give you a good advice if the pap's smear result is not there. So in this regard, her gynaecologist knows best. Go to a good one and stick to his or her advice. Don't dilly dally, because the earlier it is treated the better the prognosis. Waiting too long may make the stage irreversible. Heed my advice before it is too late.

Its very possible that she has HPV or human papillomavirus. Also known commonly as genital warts. This is the main cause of cervical cancer and should not be ignored. She may have had an active outbreak the first pap test. She should continue to have two pap tests annually just to be sure she catches the infection before it turns to cervical cancer.

She could be flirting with an HPV virus which now has a vaccination in a series of 3 injections.

These are questions your friend should really be asking her DR. If she doesn't understand tell the Dr. to break it down into terms she can understand.

i doubt it is HIV... you would detect it in a blood test.... she could have cancer or beginning stages of it..... that makes your cells out of whack.....
