Then call and reschedule it that most likely the policeman will not be there on the reschedule. They said I could then plead not guilty and since the cop isn't there I would get off. Does anyone know if this is really true.

Yes. This does happen. Worst case is that he will show up, you plead guilty on a lesser charge or for a lower fine. You should do it only if you also received points on the ticket and want to get them removed. Otherwise, it's not really worth the time and effort to go down to the courthouse to fight. It's up to you.

Most traffic citations have a scheduled court date on them. That date is usually scheduled taking account the officers vacation schedule. Any reschedule takes into account the same thing. Most Police department require their officers to be in court (its treated like any other criminal preceding or subpoena), and officers will be disciplined if they do not show up. So the officer will probably be there...But if you think you have a chance of fighting the ticket...go to court..but be prepared..dress in business attire, and present reasonable arguments to the Judge...Most Judges will give you the benefit of the doubt and are very fair..I think their view is: If you take the time to come to court, you have something worth listening to. There are many ways of getting out of speeding tickets. If you do good research, you stand a good chance. Look into the latest traffic surveys, and how the signs were posted, etc...But you needed to be traveling at a reasonable speed...not 90 mph.

If the cop does not show up for court you can get the ticket dismissed. Don't count on them not showing up or getting a reschedule

If you live in the U.S., yes.. that's true. We got a ticket also 2 months ago ($40) for parking in a wrong spot. My husband went to court to 'bargain.' He was hoping not to pay, but finally he only paid $20. Well, better than nothing. He said you can go to court for that purpose (not to pay or just pay some).

Th officer will be there, depending on the agency that gave you the ticket, the officer will get 3-4 hours of overtime pay just for showing up for 10 minutes. He does not care if he wins or loses, he wants the overtime. If that is your only defense, I urge you to rethink your position. Good luck

take the ticket before the court date and sign up for driver safety and the municipal court building and just show your car insurance and driver's license and that way it won't go on your record. Tip: read the back of the ticket and see what your options are.

Go to court. It is better to be safe than sorry.
