I have only had one ultrasound since I have been pregnant and it was at about 24 weeks. I am at 34.5 weeks and I know that the baby is supposed to be in position for birth by now. It feels like the baby is laying sideways...like her butt is protruding into the left side of the uterus and her arms or something protruding the other side...Is it normal to only have one ultrasound? Should I expect/ask for another one? Will the doctor tell me simply by feeling next week at my appointment if the baby is positioned correctly for this point in my pregnancy?

It is normal for most people to only have one ultrasound. Your doctor can tell by externally feeling how the baby is sitting. I know I felt like he was laying sideways and he wasn't, he must have long legs.

And if the baby isn't in position yet it's ok too. Mine didn't turn til about 36.5 weeks, some take a little longer then others, and the doctor keeps checking.

Yes, it is normal to only have one u/s. Some moms don't have any u/s unless there is a medical indication for one. A good caregiver can tell position by just feeling your belly, if that's your concern. And at 34.5 weeks you still have a good bit of time for baby to get in position. Sometimes they aren't in position until right before labor starts.

Check out the "belly mapping" section at the link below.

There is usually only 1 ultrasound unless there are problems. There isn't any right way for baby to be positioned at this point. Stop worrying.

It is normal to have 1 ultrasound unless high risk. the doc will let you know by feeling if the baby is in position. It probably just feels like it is side ways because the lil bottom may be leaning that way. Good luck and CONGRATS!!!

the doctor can tell by feeling the uterus, if she is sideways at this point she can still turn, wait until 37+ weeks to worry about a c-section.

The doctor should be able to tell by feeling your belly if the baby is in the right position...

Most HMO's only give one around 3-4 months. Babys move all around I wouldnt worry.
