Definitely. I hear racial slurs about Native Americans in this area every week.

It is getting better, but people still have strong racial stereotypes. Look at the immigration issue.

Until we are one race, racism will exist to some extent. For example, I am a caucasian living in a predominately african american community. I have been ignored at a service counter while the person behind the counter waited on a person of color who arrived after me. I have also been left unseated at restaurants until all the people of color waiting were first seated. Conversely, the lab in which I work is predominately Japanese and I have watched other Asians (such as Chinese or Koreans) discriminated against by the Japanese who are also Asian so I think perhaps the issue is not so much 'race' as that we as human beings are inclined to associate with like-minded regardless of race or creed and are likely to 'disciminate' or at the very least distrust those we consider different. Look at India's caste system in which Indians discriminate against other Indians. RACE is certainly not at issue in this particular instance so what is the deeper problem that keeps groups of individuals from being able to get along?

I think every country has racist people in it. That doesn't mean that all people in that country are racist. I was very disappointed in a family member over the weekend, actually, because we were visiting family in a hospital and while waiting for an elevator, two guys of a certain minority got on the elevator ahead of us- and she decided to wait for the next one. I think a lot of people are racist subconsciously- she didn't consciously choose to not board the elevator cause those two guys got on- just something in her brain signaled "danger" at the thought of doing so. It will take a long time, if we ever are able to correct this problem with our society- but in order for it to happen, the finger pointing needs to stop and ALL PEOPLE need to work together to prove racism wrong.

Yes, but it is not about being American. In Canada, we have problems with racism but at least hate literature is banned. The sad reality is that most of this is coming from Muslim extremists. There are some cases of racism, but this is a very tolerant country and we are changing a lot of things for people. People should do more than pay lip service to multiculturalism and put their money and energies where their mouth is. Being tolerant is an essential Canadian value, but we don't need to extend our welcomes to terrorists. That said, I don't excuse intolerance in the past, like the internment of the Japanese or the exclusion of Ukrainians, Jews and Natives.

There is a lot of 'selective racism'. I 'only hate this group' and 'this is why' and 'I don't really hate them but' type of racism.

What is racism? Everyone cheers for their home . It can be your country, your state, your city, your school whatever. You have a sense of pride and a genuine belief that you and yours are better and deserve things over others. There is nothing wrong with this so I figure racism doesn't exist anywhere. Now being an ignorant , backward ******,that's another story and if anyone thinks that this is more of a problem in certain groups , well maybe it's you who is a racist.. hmmmmm

The USA still a racist country -- but it's far more egalitarian than a lot of the other countries! And, even so, it's better to be a "second class citizen" in the USA than a citizen in plenty of other countries (such as Mexico -- which is why so many Mexicans choose to come to the USA as immigrants instead of be citizens in their own country).

i think that in the South and mid west there is a lot or racism. But, I don't think there is a lot of racism in the eastern cities. In my opinion, New York has flipped the race card and black people are now a lot more racist than white people.

I wouldn't call it a racist country. The majority of the people aren't racist. But, there is defintely still a lot of them.

In every country with more than one race there is racism. Ignorance is not bound by a culture, government, nor country.
