I have written about 16 or 17 musical albums and two books worth of poetry, and I really don't want anyone trying to take credit for my work, so how do you go about applying for and getting copyright or patent for those types of things? Try to explain step-by-step if ya don't mind, unless you have a link that can show me....Thanx and GOD bless!

You can do this at the US Copyright Office – see the last 3 links in the source box. The application is fairly simple & the cost is $45 per application.

Despite what others state, a "poor man's" copyright is NOT the same as registering it. Here's what the US Copyright Office has to say:

"The practice of sending a copy of your own work to yourself is sometimes called a 'poor man’s copyright.' There is no provision in the copyright law regarding any such type of protection, and it is not a substitute for registration."

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

I, too, write poetry, all I do is do the copyright myself on the backside of every poem I write. I checked with authorized authority and was once educated that's all you need to do. As lengthy as you'll be able to end up you had name to the poem at any designated date, then copyright regulation prevails for your prefer. I might love to peer a few of your paintings.
