browsing e-bay I noticed that some entire season sets are cheap, while individual volumes cost almost as much, why are they so much cheaper, are they lower quality, and if so, how much lower, are they even worth looking into? I've never bought anime before so I'm kinda in the dark.

They're all pirate DVDs from China. You can't get any genuine merchandise on eBay nowadays.

^^;; like most people said, they're all bootleg, even bilingual versions are pirated, and they're usually classified as an "IMPORT."

I bought a Sailor Moon boxed set, thinking that it was the domestic version, but it had a completely different cover, and it was just the episodes that were ripped to custom made dvds.
Needless to say, I was very upset. xD But I only paid $35 for a $100 boxed set.

On the other hand, I bought a domestic version of the Sailor Moon R and Classic from an online anime store, saved myself $200, because the price dropped. It was high quality, and it was on sale. xD Everyone else paid $150 a piece, but I ended up being the winner.

You should always check to see if it's "domestic." Some domestic dvds are cheap, but I don't always trust ebay to buy my stuff. I In addition, if you're not sure, ask the seller questions. If it still doesn't really help, then don't try to make a purchase. You should be able to trust in the seller, rather than compromise your thoughts about the matter.

EBay is a good site, but you're much better off going to an online anime store. I can give you a few sites that carry anime items, but are on sale, and at a good price too.

My husband actually has several region 2 DVDs up on eBay right now. He is selling them for a low price because a) he doesn't watch them anymore and b) we are trying to raise money to have eye surgery for our dog. It really just depends on why someone is selling. His are cheap because we need to get rid of them sooner rather than later and don't mind losing a bit of money. Region 2 DVDs generally go for about $50, he started his out at $9.99! Just watch the feedback rating and you should be ok. Ask questions of the seller, most are very helpful, if they aren't, don't buy from them.

They are usually pirated. As in, not the official DVD, but some cheap copy made in China. So the box art will look like crappy photoshop, and all the subtitles and text will be in broken english.
