Robert Gates, the White House choice to be the next defense secretary, conceded Tuesday that the United States is not winning the war in Iraq and warned that if that country is not stabilized in the next year or two it could lead to a "regional conflagration."

When Gates becomes Secretary of Defense, he's going to transfer the War on Terror to the Internet and re-write the code so chickenhawk geeks can log on and watch American troops overrunning terrorist positions and Iranian women stripping off their burkas and dressing in see-through blouses and hotpants to greet GI liberators. Republicans live in virtual reality anyway and won't notice when we've changed to a Microsoft war.
