Freud felt that it was a reflection of the unconscious. I think there is some truth in that. Then again, I think it is entertainment to pull you in. It renews the brain cells and allows for a break. Obviously, if it has survived evolution, there is a real reason why we sleep. We may understand less than ten percent of brain activity, so why we dream is still up in the air.

Maybe we got not a better thing to do when we sleep.
Maybe the imagery come from other life, sometimes I dream thing that I have never seen in this life time.

there is no real reasonh, but i do know that if you dont dream you die. When you dream there is a special chemical released into your body that you need to live. This chemical is also released when you imagine or think.
