if you drop an elongated (a, aa, aaa, c, d etc) battery on its side from about a foot, if its dead it flips on the bounce, if its not it bounces straight. Try it and tell me what you think.

when you drain a battery the stored energy displaces and the acid exits the canister leaving the empty shell lighter on one end causing the flip.
