Heated, but you can warm a regular eye lash curler by holding it in the palm of your hand while you do the rest of your make-up and then it is nice and warm and the lashes really hold curl well. Also, the heat of your hand won't overheat the lash curler like a hair dryer can.

I personally always heat mine for a few seconds with a hairdryer- it makes my eyelashes hold a curl so much better. You have to be really careful, though- if the curler becomes too hot, you can burn yourself or singe your eyelashes. Make sure you test the temperature of the curler before putting it anywhere near your eyes.
One of my friends bought a self-heating eyelash curler from Sephora but was pretty dissapointed with it, especially for the price.

i prefer the heated eye lash curler....but in all honesty i bought a normal eye lash curler and hold a blow dryer to it for 15 seconds....works great!

I have used both, and I have to say that I love my heated one. It takes a little bit to heat up, but I don't have to leave it on my eye lashes long for them to curl. It also curls them better, and last longer.
