These days, there don't seem to be any rules, but I think they will go well with a black dress if you accessorize the right way. Do you have any brown, chunky wooden beads or bracelets? If you do, that would be a cool touch to add to bring the brown together in the outfit.

Yes. Because both are neutrals they can be worn together. If neutrals couldn't be worn together, then what about black and white? Neutals can coordinate, but I would normall add other accesories to tie the colors together.
I wear a black tank under a brown jacket. The thing is though I add black shoes and a brown belt.

Mainly no. If you have a purse that has both black and that shade of brown on it and maybe a scarf to bring it together. I'd be careful, though. don't know that I would do it.

as long as they materials go together - ie: black leather with knit or suede with wool... etc... should look find - what you want is the materials to 'balance/compliment' each other...
