Not only when I turn onto a one way street, but even when I cross the intersection on a green light...you never know who's coming...
It's saved me from an accident a number of times.

Never. It is much more fun to burn rubber and avoid the semi on two wheels at 65 mph

Yep, force of habit. I also look when someone's in the passenger's seat & tells me " it's good " on their side.
