just got an sn for aim and havent actually chatted w/ anybody yet, since ive only had it for like a day. also, how do you know when you buddy i signed on? (havent actually had that happen yet)

You do not have to send a request to add people to your buddy list. If you already have the person's SN the easiest way to add them is to click on the new IM icon on the bottom of the buddy list window. A blank IM will appear, type your buddy's SN into the to: box. Send him/her a message, if the message is successful you can not click the 'add buddy' icon on the bottom right of the IM.
If your buddy is not online, you can add anyone by clicking the 'buddy list setup' icon on the buddy list. You can add/delete buddies and folders.

If you know their sn, then go to add buddy, and put in their sn, but they can only approve if they are on. Your buddie's name will appear under "buddies" when they sign on, unless they sign on as invisible, which means they will appear offline.

The only way to see a buddy is if they are on your list. You need to setup your list and add people. Do you know anyone who uses AIM or AOL?
