everybody gets depressed during the holidays, especially if their lives arent going really well. the best idea is to not buy into HAVING to be happy, because everybody else acts like it, and says you have to. i think the holidays have the record for most suicides.

you can have any kind of holiday you want, you can have a halloween christmas if you want, like tim burton, with skulls on the xmas trees and jack o lanterns.

bottom line, its up to YOU. people usually only feel pressured when they dont feel like they are in control. you obviously feel like society is controlling your holiday. all the pressure goes away when you realize you have ALL the control. you can have any kind of holiday you want! and if that isnt wonderful, i dont know what is.

Oh yeah.

I'm in the same situation. Away from family and friends.

Sucks because everywhere you look around any city or department store, you are inundated by Holiday stuff and you just really want to think of something else...

I guess one remedy would be to fly somewhere the Holidays don't exist... like the jungles of New Guinea or something.

Meh, what are we gonna do? Gotta grin, bear it and try to resist the urge to punch the Salvation Army Santa and shove his bell whree the sun don't shine.

Even though I'm 47 and have a family of my own, I miss my parents dearly at Christmas. So many good memories of the holidays!

Yes I always have, even when I'm with them, and I still don't know why that is. Still I try my best to atleast look as if I'm in the spirit. I guess it's becouse I've got no woman to share it with, and can't find the right oe for me, only run into ones with a hidden agenda.

I think that almost everyone feels a little bit of depression around the holidays for one reason or another.

I do...and a lot of people do. Know that it's a common problem. I guess my best advice is to try not to expect anything out of the holidays. I think that's why we get depressed about them so much...we expect too much.

i feel kind of depressed cause my husband is overseas, but i can't help it, so I'm trying to get in the holiday mood with me and my kids. I've been Christmas shopping online and I'm gonna decorate the house.

and i also get mad i don't have the money to buy everyone the perfect gift.

Unfortunately I get depressed every holiday season. Its a time that I remember all the people I have lost in my life and miss them dearly. Maybe one day I'll be able to overcome all this but in the meantime .... buh humbug!

if you don't want to be in a "cheery" mood, you dont have to. That is if your work dooesn't have to deal with the public. You just have to be pleasant enough though. =) But it sure is depressing when the holidays hit and youre away from your loved ones.

Not! No depression here. More like frustration. What is the reason for this season. I don't see where we are to celebrate his birth. I see where the death & resurrection are, but not the birth.
