Some doctors now recommend formula until 18 months and slowly weaning to cow's milk only if there is no sign of anemia.

Personally I would continue until he is eating well balanced meals consistantly. If that were age 3 so be it. Formula is far more nutritious than cow's milk.

I stopped formula at one year of age and started whole milk gradually. For the first week I mixed 1/3 milk and remainder milk to test for any reactions. The next week was 1/2 and 1/2 mixture and the 3rd week was 2/3 milk and 1/3 formula. By the end of the month they were on whole milk with no problem. But do make sure you continue with whole milk until the age of 2 as they need the fat to develope.

Wait until his birthday to start introducing whole milk to him. You don't need to mix the two. Just give him milk. Chances are he will like it better than formula because milk is sweeter. I gave my daughter breastmilk for her first year, which is the sweetest of the three and she took to whole milk with no problem.

Babies can't digest the proteins in dairy products until they are a year, so why not just wait a couple more weeks.

You can definitly start now. The small amount you are going to be adding will not harm your baby. I took my son off of formula a couple of weeks before his first birthday and his doctor said that was absolutly fine!

My oldest nursed until he was 3 years and 5 months.
My middle nursed until she was 22 months.
My youngest is still nursing at 3 years 10 mos of age.

If you are formula feeding, you can begin to transition to whole milk at 12 months.

yes most doctors recommend that you stop at a year old then switch to vitamin D milk and only aboyt 16 ounces a day of that because it has more calories and vitamins in it.

12 months with both my children... but both of them ended up needing soy milk because the cow milk was too harsh for their stomachs.
