Do it slowly. If you have a nursing schedule, eliminate first one feeding, then after a few days a second.. until you are down to one. Keep the one that seems most important to your child till the end... usually thats either first thing int he am or last thing at night.
Ones you are there, only do that feeding every other day... then stop

Firstly, I just want to say that you do not have to wean, unless it is what you want. Many women have nursed during pregnancy and nursed more than one child at a time. So if you are weaning because your doctor or someone else told you you had to, it isn't true. If it is your choice:
It is likely that you will loose your milk during pregnancy or it will change taste, this may cause your toddler to wean. You could decide to wait and see.
You could try don't offer, don't refuse. This work well for some toddlers. You can also start to limiting nursings to certain times of day. All the info you need to know about weaning:

The way that i weaned my son was to just keep decreasing the number of times in a day. It worked really well because if you just stop your breasts will become very engorged and sore. If you slowly wean your body will adjust much easier. Good Luck

About a month after i found out i was pregnant, my son had weaned himself. I guess I just wasn't producing enough milk for him anymore. For me it was a relief not to feel like I was forcing him to give it up before he was ready, but it was also kind of a shock because I wasn't ready to give up the quality time. Here's an article that should tell you what you need to know, on the second page of "what to expect" it talks about a second pregnancy. http://www.webmd.com/hw/raising_a_family/aa113962.asp.
hope it helps.

NEVER stop cold turkey. This is babies special time with mommy its a nurturing time for your baby and for you to just quit cold turkey will hurt him emotionally. Think of it like thsi you get dauily hugs from mom and now mom has I dunno back pain and stops hugging you cold turkey your going to be confused as a toddler and feel hurt.
Like a previous poster stated there is no need for you to stop unless you and your child wish to stop. YOu child might just self wean since your milk production will mostlikely decrease. If you REALLY want to then I would do it gradually. best of luck and CONGRATS

I know this is going to sound mean but if you just stop breast feeding your child will eat when he/she is hungry. Solid food should make up most of the diet already but milk at naptime and bedtime can be given in a bottle. It will be a fight at first but like I said they will take the bottle when they get hungry enough!

cold turkey. that was the only way for my 18 month old. he wouldn't wean so i just had to hear him scream. it took a week and he never tried again. If you want to still breastfeed you can. There are doc who support it.
