There can't be a national language for us. There can be an official language which is English. The Brits have a similar problem with the various forms of Celtic languages and their official language is English.

depends on what nation your talking about
if as i suspect you meant international i would go with english as it is the most widely spoken (not the most number of poeple but the most widely spoken)
