My main computer is directly connected to my DSL modem. For network adapters, this computer has wired ethernet. What I want to do is share the internet connection with my laptop, which has wireless built in. How do I do this? I have a router (http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=341887&pfp=dec3 but what do I connect to it? Do I keep my main computer directly connected to the modem or do I have to plug the ethernet cord somewhere else? I think this is what would be called a wired and wireless home network. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Buy the router and a Cable with an RJ45 connector. Plug the Modem into the router. Then plug your computer (the line that that connects the computer into the modem) into the router. Go to network connections to configure your network. Troubleshoot from thier. If you are not good with computers, have someone do this for you.

That router is just a wireless router, it doesn't have a built-in switch (that is, you can't connect to it with a cable). You would plug the router into the modem, which would broadcast your internet wirelessly, so you could then connect to it with your laptop, but you would be out of luck with your desktop, unless you have a wireless card for it as well. To have a wired+wireless network, you need a router+switch - I recommend the Linksys WRT54GL, a little pricey but its good equipment.

You need a wireless router, you would still connect your computer to it, then setup your wireless router to allow wi-fi to be sent out from your internet. Any linksys wi-fi router will do, something like Linksys WRT54G is good.

Your modem plugs into your router, your router would have 4 network ports, any hard wired comptuer, or your main computer plugs into any of those slots, after your router would distribute the internet via wi-fi. I would stick with linksys, don't buy a router just cause its cheap! Linksys offers the best wi-fi routers and has easy installation kits (video step by step) on how to setup your router.

All you should have to do is move the wire that comes from your modem to your pc so it goes from the modem to your input of your router. After you do that, it should just work wirelessly, but consult the instruction manual for securing the wireless network.
