Actually, my last meals at both of these restaurants were excellent. We had a friendlier waitress at Denny's this time around. The one at IHOP was friendly also. Both of their pancakes are good, but I think IHOP's are the best. IHOP has the best Frech toast also and Butter andsyrup. However, Denny's does have a wonderful atmosphere, as it's queit and much more spacey. So I'll eat at both restaurants and be grateful. IHOP is closer and has moved even closer to my house and I have had a bad experience at a Denny's once. However, IHOP's near my home have had a history of undercooked food and Denny's have ben consistant with the excellent quality. So.... I'm going straight down the middle.

They're both what I call "FRANCHISE FOOD" restaurants. When you visit either, regardless to weather you are in New York or L.A., the menu will always be EXACTLY the same. This holds true for RED LOBSTER, BENNIGAN'S, OLIVE GARDEN and the like.
The differences between one Denny's and another is only in WHO the MANAGER is, and how well (or poorly) they choose to run their franchise. I've been to good ones and really poor ones across the country.
If you want your dining experience to be memorable, always ask some of the "locals" when you travel. I find this works in locating some of the quaintest and least expensive "MOM & POP" restaurants and eateries across the country.
As far as Denny's and IHOP, I prefer IHOP because the food has proven to be the most consistent across the country.
Good Luck

Havent been to Dennys in a looong time, but IHOP isnt so great either way. I like the stuffed french toastbw/ strawberries & the big steak omelet, but nothing there is outta this world. you get what you pay for at IHOP. Now Shoney's... thats good eatin'!

Denny's. The last couple of times at an IHOP, I felt like I was hearded into booth like cattle. There is no space to move around in those restaurants. They aren't meant for enjoyment, they are mostly like feed bags. Being crammed in encourages you to eat and leave. I often meet friends for meals at Denny's because it's got decent food and decent atmosphere.

Dennys food has gone downhill over the past ten years. IHOP is certainly the best for breakfast and Dennys is better for sandwiches and burgers. Bickfords and Perkins are better than both.

I really don't like Denny's. I have NEVER had a good meal there ... a few edible, but no good.
IHOP ... is a category unto itself. They do make good pancakes, but, if you like food avoid anything else.
So which one would I choose ... for Breakfast - IHOP
Lunch - Anywhere else
Dinner - Anywhere else

Ihop has excellent chili but overall I think Denny's may have better pricing deals.

Are you kidding? Ihop by far. Denny's has a dirty (unclean) dining area and Ihop has really good pancakes.
