There is this "creature" of a person (to put it nicely) who I was once former roommates with, who has taken it upon herself to go and tell everyone in a gay chat room personal details about my life. Mind you, this happened 3 years ago, and the information she is spreading she's only doing so through hear say. She has NO real knowledge of the situation. I've tried ignoring it, placing her on ignore, but it still doesn't stop OTHER people from getting a bad image of me based on the lies she is spreading about me. Normally, I wouldn't care what people think, but some of these people on this chat room have met in real life, and there's some friends I've had on there for over 7 years, that I'm planning on meeting in the near future. What can I do?

if they are your Friends they will know that she is lying. on top of that most people understand that someone that goes and post negative things about someone normally has problem with that person and is saying anything they can think of to cause them problems. just be like a duck and let the water roll off your back

You could respond in a variety of ways:
1. Find a new gay chatroom. No shortage of those!
2. Try to take it in stride and find the humor in the situation. The ability to laugh at yourself comes in very handy when other people are poking fun at your expense. Being able to take it also qualifies you to dish it out.
3. Explain yourself when people have questions, if you feel you must. Perhaps you can prepare a form letter of some kind for when such occasions arise so you don't have to type the same old thing over and over.
4. Resort to voodoo to punish your former roommate. Just go through her garbage and snatch up something of hers, or sneak into her place and get some hairs from a brush. Get Afro-Caribbean on her [buttocks]!
If the people in the chat room are really your friends, and if you've already met them and made a good impression, they should be able to be sympathetic to your situation. Everyone has things they'd rather not have aired in public, after all, and perhaps the only thing more frustrating than that is when the tattlers get the details all wrong.

Act like you do not know what she is talking about. You really do not want this kind of 3rd grade drama do you? If your friends see that it is gettign to you they will give credance to what she says as being truth and if you pitch a fit the same thing will happen.
Scratch that go with the voodoo. Raise her dead grandma and make her dance a jig in front of her dorm room.

Just ignore it,it will stop eventually.
People get sick and tired of women that keep spreading nasty rumors.
They will see through it and if they don't:they are a chip of that same block.
Just let it ride out by itself.
And the guys that believe her?
Well find other ones.
Simple as pie.
There are more guys than churches, you know?
Greetings Rob.

If people know you are a good person, they'll see yuo for that. Stuff like this happens everyday, all the time... people are use to it. Explain the situation like you explained in your question and if they're good people you'll be fine. Don't sweat it hun!!!

Whatever you do, don't scoop to her level. If the people in this chat room are your TRUE friends they will see through it. Actions speak louder than words - just keep yours honorable!

If she is using your name, you can sue her for slander. You might also inform others of this person's falsehood. Don't use names, or she could turn the tables, and sue you, and then you'd have to prove your innocence. Don't sink to her level, rise above it and people who know you will understand that her lies are just that.

Sorry, you will probably just have to "grin and bear it". Unless of course, you can prove her "tales" are causing you financial, physical,or mental harm. Then you might have a lawsuit.

send each of your friends an email describing the situation as calmly and politely as you can. if they are truly your friends, they will take the next step and act on your behalf.
