ONLY conference champions are eligible in the 8 team playoff. Notre Dame gets into a conference or tough love to you. Becasue there are more than 8 conferences ONLY the top 8 ranked conference champions are eligible (not top 8 teams). You must be 7-5 or better to be in a bowl. No 6-6 bowl teams. No arguing about strength of schedule or which conference is hardest or anything else. Settle it on the field. Best representative from each of the top 8 conferences. Play it off. No exceptions for anyone. No non conference champions becoming National champions, supposedly weaker conferences get even chance. However, best record may not be national champs (See St. Louis Cardinals in baseball for example). What do you think? How do we implement that?

Ya know I've been saying that for the last four or five years. I agree that Notre Dame needs to get a grip also!!! Small suggestion why not give the top two teams a bye in the first round?

Thank You for stating the obvious for the NCAA idiots

This is an interesting effort to solve this problem, and I do like the idea of forcing Notre Dame into a conference. Then you could require each conference to hold a championship game to determine the champions, but there are still some problems:

1) If only 8 teams make the playoffs, what about conference champions from mid-majors? Do they get a shot? This just seems to re-enforce the bias towards the BCS conferences that we have now. Maybe you could open it up to 2 "at large" bids from other conferences, or have a "play-in" game or two.

2) The NCAA and the schools make way too much money on bowls (even those minor bowls) to give up on the bowl system. As long as there is money to be made from two 6-6 teams playing each other, NCAA athletes will continue to be exploited and the games will be played.

Call me a pessimist, but as long as there is money to be made and lost the system will reflect that and a playoff system is highly unlikely. A college football playoff would be further exploitation of the athletes (as long as it's illegal for them to get a paycheck).

Perhaps we just need to see College football for what it is- a VERY cost-effective NFL development league that makes money for corporations, the NCAA, and the Universities. If you want true championship football, tune in to the NFL playoffs.

I like most of your proposal.

BUT I think you need to include a method for a one-loss team to still EARN a chance at it on the field. (like a "Michigan" this year, for example).

So maybe use the Bowls to battle it out and narrow down the field. Then take the top-ranked Bowl winners and put them into the actual "playoff" to battle it out for the title. Maybe take the top 4/top-ranked teams AFTER the Bowls.

Because one top conference just might have 2 teams that are more deserving than a weaker conference but one team will have that one loss. At least this way they get to earn it on the field. You know what I mean?

Something has to happen. The BCS sucks and is taking away from the appeal of NCAA football.
