To me, happiness is temporary but contentment in long lasting. For example, happiness can be when the sun is shining, traffic is good, and you get good parking spaces. Contentment is when your health is good, children behaving, and your relationship is working well.

You cant have one without the other.

Without contentment, happiness will only be for the second.
With contentment come happiness since you are content.

While with happiness (without contentment) will constantly give way to unhappiness since the person has not yet learned to be content.

People who never learn to be content constantly will find that they "need" (lust, want) more and never will find an end to it.

Don't confuse contentment though with laziness. Many people will say they are just content when in actuality they are just lazy.

Contentment is something the requires work. You can be content even when everything isn't working out. Laziness requires no work (obviously lol ).

Mike

P.S. Without God you can not learn to be content and find happiness.

I believe that being content with what you have and where you are in life brings about happiness. So to me, contentment is more important as it's needed before happiness can happen.

I had to giggle on the reaction, "adult males do not understand contentment," b/c it replaced right into a remark like this accurate previously a wedding ceremony separation. i replaced into arguing with spouse about the status quo interior the loved ones & he (actually & naively) replied, "what's the issue? i'm content fabric." OH! you're content fabric. properly, then what am I b!tching about? So contentment to him must have meant being happy with how issues were going. i wager happiness incorporates THAT plus some quantity of elation. i'm no specialist in this one. I have felt beaten w/ exhilaration & considered that as happiness, yet judging from others lives, i imagine I have "happiness" incorrect. it type of appears like that is going to be larger than contentment, lower than elation, yet not fleeting. A fidelity that hangs round. IF this is that, then it has eluded me maximum of my existence. that is a troublesome component to face... understanding that i do not comprehend what happiness is. yet I do understand exhilaration so i'm not gonna' *****.

Happiness is what you choose to be in spite of existing circumstances which can completely ruin your day. You rise above the situation, so-to-speak. You determine in your mind not to allow the vicissitudes of life bring you down. You say to yourself, "This is my life and I refuse to let anything or anyone mess with my head." Happiness is really a state of mind.

Contentment is saying to life "whatever you hand me, I am satisfied. No, it is not what I want but I am satisfied with my lot. I am looking toward a better day, but in the meantime, my little abode is comfortable, I have food, clothing, a job (not a great salary - but I get paid). I am contented even if you put me in a dumpster. No, I don't want to go there but I will be quite contented, anyway.

The way I look at it is that happiness is for ever and being content is just settling. Happiness is when you are always happy, everything in life is going good. Being content means you are just content with the way things are, you are not over excited, you are settling..................

In my opinion, you can't be content without happiness. So happiness is definately superior. Contentment can be mundane.
