I was at a yard sale and I didn't buy something. Instead I was holding
it about to buy it. Yet because I didn't buy it, someone took it out of
my hands and bought it before me, is that legal?

It happened to me last year and I thought why not ask how illegal this is.

Ah...that's an interesting question. I mean in the one hand because you are in private residencial property makes all the items on the Yard still property of resident on his property thus he can take away his property from you given that it's his (remember this is not a regular business store where they can't just take something from you)....they can if they thought you were stealing it...but your agreement is hear say and they can claim that you were stealing it....don't waste your time with it....

NOW IF THEY DID THIS TO YOU IN A STORE THAT WOULD BE A DIFFERENT STORY...what state are you in

Wow! The proper yard sale etiquette is to pick it up after the interested person puts it back down. That was WAY rude! You should have grabbed it back or not let go in the first place. But I guess it was an awkward situation.

rude almost beyond belief, but perfectly legal.

and shame on the person holding the garage sale too, for letting the jackass buy the item after snatching it from you.

look what the gimme-gimme conservatives have done to this once fine country.

I would think that would not be ethical. But since you had not bought the item yet it could not be considered stealing.
They probably broke no law unless you were assaulted in the process.

It is legal if the owner accepts money from the other person, they would have the final say........Stop thinking and buy it next time

I guess you could call it assault as they had to apply force.

Man, that is straight RUDE. I would simply have taken it back. I say simply, but that means they would not have been able to stop me.

Very rude but doubt you can do something about it.
You would have to have proof if there was a law.
