in the early late 60's and early 70's, in the south,,,,,(i graduated in 1972) we were required to have 4 years english,,,, one math class, one science,,,, and one that could be math or science,,,, 4 years phys ed and/or band,,,,, world history and world geography,,, we had our classes for the whole 9 months, except for say drivers ed, which was half a year, we also had a study hall as an hour of our day, for a credit, if we wanted that option,,,, we had 6 classes a day,, a possible 6 credits a year,,,, and needed 20 to graduate,,,, there were no standarized testing, no graduation test,,,,,a big emphasis was placed on english, girls took alot of typing/shorthand,, females really were not required or encouraged to take more then basic math.
a little side info , when i started high school in 1968, females could not wear pants of any type,,, our skirts had to be to the knee,,,,this slowly evolved to pant suits and then by the time i graduated we were wearing hippie clothes,,,,
