They moved their legs backward and forward. Seriously, what do you mean. The Apollo space program used the Saturn V rocket to propel a lunar orbiter toward the moon. Then a lunar lander dropped from the orbiter and made contact with the surface. The astronauts wore airtight insulated suits designed for space conditions. The moon has a gravity about 1/6 of the earth, so each step caused the astronauts to bounce, because if the astronaut weighed 200 lbs on earth, they would only weigh 33 lbs on the moon. Does this answer your question?

The astronauts walked on the Moon just like one would on Earth. The Moon has no atmosphere, however, so they had to wear large bulky pressurized suits with oxygen and heating/cooling systems.

Now your question seems to imply that you think that the Moon has zero gravity. You are a bit off if this is what you think. The Moon has gravity, just less than that of Earth. The Moon has about 1/6 the amount of gravity Earth has. So the very heavy, very bulky spacesuits the astronauts wore weren't as hard to bear as they would have been in Earth's gravity.

By putting one foot in front of the other...

The Apollo 11 mission allowed for Neil Armstrong and Edwin (Buzz) Aldrin to walk on the moon. They landed on the Sea of Tranquility and decended from the L.E.M or what is called the Lunar Excavating Module. They blasted off from the moon in the L.E.M. , connected with the main craft that was orbiting the moon with Michael Collins and returned to the earth.

The put on a pressure suit with UV protection, opened the hatch and climbed down the ladder. After that, it was pretty much just putting one foot in front of the other in a repetitious fashion.

They hopped. Because normal walking was difficult due to the low gravity.

first they climbed the ladder down, then they jumped to the ground, when they walked they had to hopp.
