You are absolutely right.America was created by true hero's and certainly not the fear and war mongering neocons of today.
"They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security."
Benjamin Franklin
"The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure, when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them."
Patrick Henry, American colonial revolutionary
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be."
Thomas Jefferson to Charles Yancey, 1816
"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."
Abraham Lincoln
"To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men."
Abraham Lincoln
"We the People are the rightful masters of both Congress and the Courts--not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution."
Abraham Lincoln
"The means of defense against foreign danger historically have become the instruments of tyranny at home."
James Madison
"It is the duty of the patriot to protect his country from its government."
Thomas Paine
Even the Republicans of those days would be ashamed of what has become of their party today.
God bless America!The real America

No. George Washington was the most conservative man ever born. And Peace, Liberty and the persuit of Happiness is not take care of everyone by giving them a handout. Back then people worked and worked hard, so if they did get some help from their fellow farmers and settlers they deserved it. Now a days people think they deserve getting something just because they spread their legs and had a baby.

Insofar as the Founding Fathers were liberals in the classic sense of the term, you're correct.
That being said, Eighteenth Century liberals would find today's version as alien as Klingons.

What Conservatives mean about "old values" is bringing back corporate royalist and one religion ran government and a small if any middle class that could rise to power or to shorten it up, turn "We the People" into 'We the Corporations"

Of course it is. And you re not dumb. The flaw are intolerance of different views. So many times we allow issues that have nothing to do with the well being of the people to influence how we vote. But freedom is exactly what you think it to be. Very Good my friend. Happy Holidays

They just don't want any new values. It might have been the liberals who came up with women's rights, voting rights, civil rights, child labor laws, and unions, but they quickly forget that. They don't want any new values or ideas, even though history proves that new values and ideas are healthy for a country.

Dumb Foreigner but!!!
Sorry...lame but I couldn't resist.
And (as another dumb foriegnor) I would say you are entirely correct...but see they only want to be liberal enough to protect their own desires, not those of people who don't see exactly eye to eye.

You're a dumb foreigner. (Well you asked me to say that).
Todays "Liberals" Don't seem to want liberty. The meaning of words changes. Today's Neocons are the true liberals now.
Just because the words share a common root doesn't mean anything. Terrorist & terrific have a common root.

Everyone claims to know what the forefathers wanted.
No one is really ever going to know. It's all speculation.
