Has anyone ever heard of the word discomfitting? Someone used that word in our email conversation and I assumed they meant discomforting. I challenged that person's intellect and I was incorrect. It was a valid word and I have no way of telling that person I apologize. I've never felt more stupid and embarrassed in my life. I am an educated man with a degree in Business and I couldn't even confirm the validity of a word used in our English language. I am a man who admits when he is wrong and I wanted to apologize to that person, wherever they may be.

I have never heard of the word either. I've taken the time to look it up. Just come right out and let the person know you are sorry. Maybe you could even use in your apology that you now know a new word.

I would like to know the meaning of the word? I have heard so many people say a word but use it in the wrong way. Or say a word and use it correctly but pronounce it the wrong way.
