For almost three thousand years, Mexico was the site of several advanced Amerindian civilizations. The arrival of the Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés who defeated the Aztecs in 1521, marks the beginning of the three hundred year-long colonial period of Mexico as New Spain.

Hermano Cortes (1485-1547), a Spanish Conquistador. He wasn't looking for Mexico as he didn't know it was there (and, technically it wasn't, it was the Aztec Empire), He, like all the Spaniards at the time were looking for gold and glory, not precise geographical locations.
