14 years ago, I was in kindergarten, busy bullying other kids to carry my pink Barbie branded bag for me (at least, it was THE brand to have when I was at that age). I'm 19 now. But I should say that even so, 12 - 14 years does seem like a long period of time.
I feel that, as a 19 year old and just about recovering from the traumatic events of teenagehood and puberty (I'll spare you the details), I have learnt so much about life already in such a short period of time. Its just that I think my IQ rose 100 notches under 2 years while I was undergoing many tests (not necessarily in written form - you can say they're general but excruciatingly difficult tests that life presents to you). And this is during the period of time when you learn the most out of life - I guess you can say that I put my raving hormones to good use instead of directing them at boys (only). And you're talking 12 - 14 years!
I was talking to my bestie yest and I started reminiscing about the good old days back when we took our finals at high school. It seemed such a long time ago - then we realized it was only 2 years ago. And I'm using the word 'reminiscing' here... since when do 19 year olds reminisce?? About the 'good old times' nonetheless?? Lol.
What I'm trying to say here (I'm SOOO sorry for being long-winded) is that times a-changing and life moves at a more rapid pace in todays world. People on the go learn new things at a faster rate and not relishing every living moment thus time seem to go slowly (somehow or other). So if I feel that 2 years brought me 100 IQ points... I would be Einstein by the 12th year! Haha.
I hope this weird 19 year old brings enlightenment in terms of life experiences. Cheers!

12-14 years is a very short time. Have a child before you know it 18 years will pass by, then you will find yourself wondering where all the time went and remembering 12-14 years ago like it was yesterday.

Right now it represents about 27% of my life. It's along time to hold your breath, and a long time to be married to an abusive person, but it's a short time to spend with a child, and a short time to be in a career. So, it's all relative.

It depends in what you invest it in?
12-14 yrs invested in education, carreer, or home ownership is a long time but the rewards outweight the cost.
12-14 yrs invested in drug use, a bad marrage, or just waisted is a horrible use of time and will feel LLOONNNGGGGG!
If you have that amount of time to invest, do it wisely.

Actually, the longer I live, the shorter it seems. 12-14 years just starts to go by very quickly.

Of course it is.
“A little help at the right time is better than a lot of help at the wrong time.”
“Distance tests a horse's strength. Time reveals a person's character.”
“It takes a long time to understand nothing.”
