Labor is so difficult to describe. I've never heard a description that I felt nailed it down. I'll try but probably fail. I really had no other symptoms. With one I lost the mucus plug, with one I could not sleep at all for the whole night and day before I went into labor. I felt like I was on an adreneline rush. As for the actual pains, have you ever eaten a salad or seafood or something like thai food or chinese food that ran right through you and you actally doubled over sitting on the toilet? (sorry so graphic) well that's kind of what labor felt like for me with my son. My whole stomach region would harden which felt like the baby was pressed up right against the wall of my belly. I could feel the outline of his bottom perfectly. I felt flush and sweaty. The intensity gets way worse from there. With my daughter I had back labor and there is nothing NOTHING, i can so to describe that to you. The pain in my lower back was the worst thing i could ever imagine on 1-10 scale it was a 10. The bad thing was there was no way to relieve the pain. I hope that helps. I mean really it is one of those things that you just live and can never explain exactly what it feels like. It wasn't so bad that it prevented me from going through it again (our third and last is due after Christmas) good luck, congratulations, and Happy Holidays.

Labor pains are so very different, not just with each mom, but also with each pregnancy. Some people experience labor pains in the front, some have back labor. Generally they are cramps which go from slight to moderate to severe as they increase, they come at intervals, but continue to increase. However, that does not rule out the fact that some women don't have labor pains. With my second child, I did not have one labor pain until she was actually beginning to enter the birth canal. I went to the hospital because I had what they refer to as the bloody show, a small amount of blood, can be the plug so to speak. I was three weeks late and it is a good thing that I had read about it, because when the doctor checked me I was already dilated to 7! Needless to say, he kept me at the hospital. I was delivering her between the labor room and the delivery room! Also some people have their water break prior to going into labor. Always go straight to the hospital if that happens!

I learned "labor" pains and "contractions" were not misnomers. I had pains for a day before I went into actual labor.
It felt like all the muscles in my stomach were coming together and clenching in the middle. It hurt, but wasn't a sharp, knife-like pain which is what I was afraid of. I would go through it all again, it wasn't THAT bad....As far as any other symptoms, I didn't have any. My water didn't even break.

Active labor with no pain meds to me felt like i was dying .It was like someone was squeezing my internal organs and twisting it as if you would do to a wet towel and then thethe pain would ease up but come back stronger and longer until the baby is born. Active labor with pain meds felt more like strong bh contractions . No pain just really hard tightning.

Sometimes they are slight pains in your low back that come and go. Sometimes they are terrible pains in your back that come and go. Sometimes they are hardening of your stomach with little or moderate pain. Better to be safe than sorry though and call your Dr.

felt like painful PMS cramps. It really wasn't horrible, though. I did it without any pain killers and I can't wait to do it again!
fully effaced, 4cm dilated, baby had "dropped", and I'd been that way for over a month past my due date. They finally broke my water and pitocin induced.
