I think it would be a travesty to divide India by state and language. Each state, standing alone, will only weaken India. Where as a United India, where all states are held together by a common language, is an India that will be strong, powerful, and have international significance. I think state and ethnic identity of individual groups within India should never supersede what is best for the country as a whole. A house divided, after all, cannot stand. With strident enemies like Pakistan at India’s border and economic powerhouses like China breathing down our necks, it would be foolhardy to divide India into the respective cultures that comprise its rich heritage.
Any nation that has achieved global hegemony and prospered must first be unified in language and purpose. History attests to this truism time and time again. You name the greatest empires – Egypt, Greece, Rome, Britain, and the United States – and you will find that at home they are unified under one language and a common set of mores. The minute that divisiveness occurs with respect to language and culture, the empire, and the prosperity that goes with it, crumbles.
So what if you are Tamil, or Malayalee, or Punjabi? These trivial ethnic and cultural divisions are what have kept India from being the superpower it could have been. We already have a highly mobile and educated population. We have years of wisdom under our belt, being that we are one of the oldest cultures in the world. We have the largest participatory democracy in the world. So what is keeping us from achieving greatness? The only thing keeping us from realizing the true power we potential could have is our lack unity. All this sectarian bickering keeps India from being the best it could be. If one has to sacrifice their Tamil, Malayalee, or Punjabi identity so that all can benefit from national unity, then so be it. I would rather see a fellow Indian prosper, with food in his belly, a good job to go to, and a nice house to reside in, by sacrificing his individual ethnic traditions and language, than starve to death in order to adhere to them.

The Communist made this plot at the time of independence, supporting two-nation theory of the Britishers, seeking formation of as many as 15 countries. Already the partiation was proved to be unnatural and it failed to benefit either Pakistan or India, but made the entire South Asia boiling. European history is entirely different. We are one emotionally. We need high spirited leadership that can inspire the people towards positive side.

You have cited the example of Europe, in support of your claim. You have failed to note that even in Europe, the trend towards integration rather than isolation. England is despised by countries like France, for its isolationist policies. The Europeans want to develop themselves into a major force, by aligning themselves into a cohesive unity. European Union is the step in that direction. Your divisive idea runs counter to the general trend towards strengthening by bonding with the like minded and culturally and civilisationally alike nations. You have failed to take note of the fact that even within a State, you cannot expect every body speak one language. In a State like Tamilnadu, I am sure more than a third of the population must be speaking languages other than Tamil. In the City of Bangalore, more than two third of the population is non-kannada speaking, which is giving heart-burn to the chauvinistic elements in that State. While I agree with you that people should learn their own mother tongue, they must learn languages other than own mother tongue. The more languages you learn, the more powerful and influential you become. Language should be treated as a means of communication and bonding with more people rather than a divisive vehicle.

The first mistake that happened to india post independence is the fact that Indian states were formed based on languages, y did they want to do the same divide and rule policy implemented in the name of language? Just imagine if states were just formed by drawing some straight lines vertical and horizontal. Today we would be fighting for rights of the state based on Language. Anyways it is all history...India should be remain as one...otherwise we will become vulnerable for attacks...India is one...will be always one..Jai-Hind

if all the states of any country get independent rather than being a country firstly the country looses its identity, secondly each state will start thinking of its own leading to selfishness. at time they also quarrel among them selves and may lead to war and other mass distructions. finally v can conclude that it against the phrase "unity in diversity"

In urdu there is a saying it reads like this " jab ghidad ki maut aati hai to woh shahar taraf bhag ta hai" Looks like you are bent upon killing India. By the way which country's secret agent you are? Are you a member CIA or KGB or Al Qaida?
