I believe you are talking about fate or destiny. If we are destined to be something can we choose not to follow it? Or will things out of our hands make us do it. Are we just characters in a book, that has a writer who determines our every action? Of course if that were true the answer to the question really isn't going to change anything. You would have your answer, but still not be able to make your own decisions. I don't believe in fate, but I do believe in a directive. If we don't control anything then there is obviously nothing to worry about all things that are suppose to happen will.

We have control of almost everything which happens in our lives. The decisions we make allow us to live better or longer, grow as a person, and gain or lose opportunities.

While death is imminent and (theoretically) out of our control, our choices help determine the day and time. Now, some things we can't control (like certain illnesses), but we always have the choice to do or not do things which put us in or out of harm's way.

Very good question.

We do not have direct control over most of the things that happen in our lives, yet all of our decisions have influence in the Karma that befalls us. Our happiness is not determined by our willfulness to strive for what we want; but our ability to strive for what we want depends upon our happiness. Contentment does not come from our success, but in the appreciation of the fortune that has befallen us. SO our decisions do not affect the overall success of our lives so much as our attitudes do. A lust for our own gain will not grant us so much good gain as our good wishes and efforts for others.

I think we have a choice what to do and not to do in our lives but I also think that we have written our own life so there for ask yourself what the hell were you thinking when you wrote your life out? I think we put in our 'Life Plan' certain things that we have choices on ( I think just to make things interesting). Read some of Sylvia Browns books it might give you more understanding.

Sure we do ... we just can't control other people and what they do to us. But you can control how you handle it.
