some factors was the independence of women, their movement into the work place left them not dependent on husbands for financial support,,,,, also as society moved into the expectation of happiness in life in general and the "marriage for happiness" as opposed to focus on family etc,,,, people expected to be happy, and were quicker to end marriages where there were not,,,,

The lax on reasons for divorce. Google "fault" and "no-fault" divorce. Every state has switched to no fault divorce(with the exceptions of three states that have contract marriages along with no fault divorce) which means that they no longer have to prove adultery, abuse,ect. This gave spouses the chance to file for divorce without worrying how they will prove it.

These were the Baby Boomers becoming very selfish. The men that had fought in WWII and Vietnam wanted out of their marriages and into the beds of every woman. The Wife's wanted out of the kitchen and into the working class world. It was like the whole dynamic of marriage completly did a 180 and everyone wanted a peice of it.

I would guess that it had something to do with more women being in the economy forcing more women to be in the workforce. Also, you had vietnam is the 60's. I'm sure that split a lot of couples.

there were a number of reasons:
1) women gained more rights- feminist movement
2) more access to jobs for women= them being able to support themselves irrespective of having a man
3) drop in religious life (look up statistics on this one)
4) social acceptance of divorce and more knowledge of serious marital issues- new laws to prevent marital rape, spousal abuse

That is the period when women had more rights and were speaking out. At that point they had more of a choice to leave a relationship than prior to that.

Drugs then disco,then people got scared,when rap came out.So they started marrying again for security.
