Females and males have pubic hair (including their armpits) in places where there are high concentrations of sweat glands. Carried in the sweat are pheromones which convey important subconscious information between individuals. The hair in these areas capture sweat and allow the pheromones to eminate continually.

I would suggest that hair in relatively poorly ventilated areas of the body helps sweat escape by wicking action, which prevents sores from continual wetness and helps body cooling.
