Does anyone know who originally sang that song that goes,

"Some people wait a lifetime, for a moment like this"

I'm almost 100% sure someone sang it before Kelly Clarkson, since she's only been around the past two/three years, and I remember that song from a long time before that.

I'm thinking Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston, but I can't find anything on Google about anyone but Kelly Clarkson singing that song...

Justin Guarini also sang it. On the first season of American Idol, both Kelly and Justin sang it on different nights. It was going to be "the" song of the winner, no matter who won.

I think both Kelly and Justin recorded it, before the winner was decided, so Kelly's was the only version released.

"A Moment like This" is the first single by Kelly Clarkson, later included on her multi-platinum debut album, Thankful.

The single was co-written by Jörgen Elofsson and John Reid, and produced by Steve Mac. It was written to be the first single for the winner of the first season of American Idol. As a result, the 4 remaining finalists, Clarkson, Justin Guarini, Tamyra Gray, and Nikki McKibbin each recorded a version of the song in case they won. The song was first revealed to the public when McKibbin was removed from the competition, and Guarini and Clarkson competed in a final showdown while singing this song, along with another track, "Before Your Love". After the American public had voted, the two once again performed the song (along with "Before Your Love" again) at the final show before the results were revealed. When Clarkson was announced as the winner, she became emotional, and once again sang the song as her final performance.

Kelly was the first to sing this song as it was written specifically for American Idol. You must be thinking of another song, cause no one else has recorded it.

Cheers!

I thought the song was written especially for that season's American Idol winner.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Ok, I looked it up, it was written by this guy:
"The name of Swedish songwriter Jorgen Elofsson may not be well known (in the U.S.), but anyone who has turned on a radio or television nearly anywhere in the world has heard his music. He has penned global hits for Britney Spears (“Sometimes” and “You Drive Me Crazy”), Kelly Clarkson (“A Moment Like This"), U.K. sensation Westlife, and he contributed two songs to Simon Cowell’s pop-opera creation, Il Divo."

Ok, so he's a buddy of Simon's that works for the record label. There ya go. Original song for American Idol.

This song was not only performed by Kelly Clarkson but she also wrote it! Check out the attached website for the information. I have checked several websites and there is no other author is listed as well as artists that have performed it. I hope this helps.

Happy Holidays!

I thought that song was written for her. But just put the lyrics into google with the word "lyrics" next to it and keep scrolling down untill you hit a result that isn't related to American Idol.

I was under the impression that the song was a pop song written for American Idol's winner but I could be wrong. I don't think I'd heard it before.

I'm betting that the person making this query was thinking of Whitney's "One Moment in Time!"
