well that's why I said "tend to". I don't like extremes like "always", "never", "everyone" and "no one".

not me.
On the contrary, I tend to see those kinds of people (who yell their views with conviction) as zealots who are really insecure inside but cling desperately, blindly to their belief without being open to all possibilities. Such single-minded individuals scare me. I back slowly away....

Because people (sorry some people) are just plain gullible. However a lot can depend on the circumstances at the time and somebody saying things that people want to hear. When Hitler came to power there was massive unemployment and inflation in Germany and the people saw in him an answer to their problems. I don't suppose they had any idea that that included gas chambers and concentration camps at the start but then it was too late.
All politics work in a similar fashion but fortunately democratic processes ensure things don't get really out of hand.

1. Most people are intellectually lazy.
2. Most 'problems' in the world that can be classified under the 'simple' category have been solved.
3. The remaining 'hard' problems require intellectual firepower and honesty to solve.
4. People have 'dispositional' attraction to certain kinds of personalities. If their 'dispositional' beliefs are verbalized by these personalities, they will immediately latch on to their views on unrelated subjects as well.

Regarding your added details -- the words "tend to" still doesn't address the fact that it's not people; it's SOME people. Some people tend to because some people are clueless.

the louder they speak the more authority they APPEAR to have; would you listen to and believe someone who sounded timid and unsure of themselves?
