Okay there is a Sempron 2800+ processor for both DDR and DDR2. However the DDR2 version did not come out until May of this year, so if your computer is older than that, you will use DDR.

Here's what I would do if I was you if you got a hand-me-down computer that you have NO IDEA what it is or who makes it. I just did this the other day to try and see if the drivers for my motherboard were up to date. Open your computer case and find the Motherboards name, and go to their website and download the manual. My mother board happened to be made by asus, and I found everything I needed there.

If your PC is made by someone you can identify like Compaq, HP, Gateway, etc, try getting the model number off of the case. My model number is on the front, you may need to look around the case to find it however.

OR (EVEN BETTER) with that model number go to crucial.com. They sell memory and you can plug in a model number into their memory finder and it will tell you what you need, or have them scan your computer to find out what you need.

Hope that helps

What does the documentation say? It will say what RAM it supports. There is an old phrase that goes RTFM. Which stands for Read The Fine Manual. This usually helps in finding out what something will support like this. Heck... Most MOBO boxes include on the cover as an advertisement what it supports.
