Hi there. Got an iBook running OX 10. When I try to start up, it gets to the grey screen, shows apple, runs the progress wheel for five minutes, and then restarts. I've tried starting up in safe mode, but the same thing happened. Please tell me there is hope left!!

Thanks so much for your response, but I need a few details.

1. I bought my computer online and don't think the previous user sent the install disk.

2. How do you reset the P-Ram?

3. I removed all peripherals, no luck.

4. How do you boot into single user mode?

Most important - will any of these actually erase data on my harddrive? I've been a bit neglectful on backing up. :-(

There is hope left. You could start up via the osX install cd. Or you might try resetting the P-Ram. You might want to disconnect all peripherals as it sounds like it is looking for something before booting fully e.g. a modem or disk. Also try booting into Single User mode and running this: /sbin/fsck -fy.
