If a Black person calls another Black person a Ni---r it is ok. But if any other race calls a black person a Ni---r suddenly it becomes a problem? Why Why?
And why is it ok for ANY race (even blacks) to use words such as "Honkey, ****, chinks, and much more)
Notice How I had to not say the N word because of the Yahoo filter here. But all the rest (honkey, ****, chink) where not filtered out.... Why is that?

The N word is more offensive, they used this word during the slave period honkey and chink are just words made up, they have no significant history to them. So saying the N word has more power/meaning. I dont have a problem with black people referring to each other as the N word why should I.....it is not directed towards me or someone from a different race. It is there word that has described them they own it so they can use it.

I will not bore you with the history of the word, I think everyone knows the origin of the word is negative and derogatory toward African Americans. As a African-American male, Black Man I do not use this word. I do not think it's okay for anyone to use this word including members of my family. I do not think it is just a black problem. Well actually my family doesn't use this word. It's just disrespectful. When I hear younger brothers referring to each other with N***** this and N***** that I just simply know they have no idea what their doing. So many of our younger brothers and sisters don't really understand. I personally don't like the word however I wouldn't beat a white person or any other race of person who called me the N***** word. I'm not one. Would it offend me? No, because I would know this person is only trying to push my buttons. I am so beyond that. So in short it's one of those words I think has generational connotations linked to it. Younger (Teenage) people may think it's hip but should really research the history of the word for greater clarity. Young adults should know better. Older adults KNOW better. Enough said?

No different from any other term like that. Think about just about any word like that referring to other ethnic groups, and you will find the people in those groups using it when talking to each other. I'm Italian, grew up in an Italian Catholic parish. The favorite jokes told when these guys would get together? You got it...the Dago jokes. My two closest friends from my teen years--one Polish, one Syrian--have told me that things are the same at their family, church, or ethinic gatherings. Seems to be pretty universal...coming from outside the group it's a slur and fighting words, but coming from one inside the group (the Italians would refer to these buddies as "goombas") it's OK. Whether or not that's right is pretty beside the point, because (as Walter Cronkite would say) "That's the way it is."
Hey, by the way, Merry Christmas to all yinz there.

I really think it is because the black population was disgusted by hearing that word so often, so they adopted it for themselves. Good strategy on their part.

I wish the word would totally be erased from the world entirely. It is an expression that derived in the deep south when the ignorant slave owners did not know how to spell or even pronounce a word correctly. Their little southern accents. The correct word is actually ***** and if people used it correctly, it would be a sign of respect instead of making fun of the black people of our world, of which I am thankful for.

since i am black i think i will take this one, lol. but seriously, it isn't okay for blacks to call each other the n word, however since its from race to race they dont feel as if it is putting them down since thier both the same. however considering all what blacks have been through in the past, they dont exactly want to be reminded of that kind of racial segration and demeaning words like that. now dont get me wrong that still does not give them the right to say it to one another , but they feel its more right for them to do it than whites. in my opinion if u can give anyone a racial slur, whether thier the same as u or not, u should be able to take one as well, and if u cant then dont say one at all. and eye for an eye right..........

It's all about racism. It's just something for them(n) to b---- about so they can get more attention and maybe even get some free stuff from it. They keep going back to slavery; which has nothing to do with our generation. It was over with years ago. But do they stop and take in consideration all the other races that started out in this country with the same problem? It shouldn't be against the white people anyway. Their own people sold them to us. This answer will probably be deleted, but they should delete all the other racist, sex est, and just plain disgusting questions.

words are not bad, contexts are bad. when black people use it 99% of the time its not in a bad context.
some black people feel that white people can never use a good context (like joking around). this is a huge double-standard and even racist in its own right.

when comedians use terms against people (not counting kramer) in their act we know it is a good context because they are kidding- and thats their job. some like Dave Chappel don't understand that if this is your defense for racist terms it has to work both ways.

some also think black people can't be racist. this is so untrue its beyond all logical thought. anyone can hate another.

its wrong that some slurs don't get blurred out on yahoo. I understand honky not getting blurred- a honky tonk might sound a racial name for a country music club but its not. so blurring that word would mess up a clean word.

Well its the same reason why people that have something wrong with them can joke about their problem with other people with the same thing, but if someone who doesn't have it starts cracking jokes then its offensive. Like if you were in a wheelchair and cracking jokes about being in one, then some guy who came up walking was cracking wheelchair jokes...then its not funny.

also what doesn't make sense is how they call one another "n*gga" same dang thing. they just want their word back thats all.

and ever notice how they always go back to the time of slavery? alot of celebs do this!!

Not all black people use it most of the ones that do are ghetto and they are the ones that are really offended by it too shows how stupid they really are. I'm a **** ginni mix and personally those words dont offend me that is why I can use them. Anyway If someone did call me that I could easily overlook someone with that intelligence level

It's not okay for ANYONE to use ANY racial slurs. As far as the "N" word, though, there is no other racial slur that is more emotionally charged than the "N" word. What any race calls itself amongst it's own members is that race's business. Anyone outside of the race who utters the "N" word is plainly doing it to offend. The history of the word is too ugly and painful to be used whether in jest or otherwise by any other race. PERIOD.
