My ex and I split over two (2) years ago. We ended our relationship very uneventfully. We were just not right for each other. He told me that he will sign the divorce papers without any problems, since I don't want anything from him but my freedom. Now, it is two years later and he is still making up excuses about signing the papers, which I have sent him repeatedly. How can I get him to sign the papers without having to travel to the state that he lives in? He is in the military.

If he's in the military, then send the papers that need to be signed to his commanding officer. Send along a cover letter apologizing for getting him/her involved, and state the reasons...repeated mailings, conversations, etc with soon to be ex. Also state to his commanding officer, that you would appreciate his/her help in attaining the ex's signature, and make the CO aware that if your ex continues to refuse to sign, you would be left with no other options than to seek an attorney's advise.
Thank the CO very sincerely and profusely, sign it, and wait...CO's usually take care of their charges when they somehow have to get involved.

In the county i live in, you can go to the Clerk's office and get a do it yourself divorce packet. If you don't want anything then you could do it yourself. It's easy. Fill out the papers and file them and you will get a court date and go from there. You can also call your local Legal Aid and get the info you need.

File or a pro se (Do it yourself ) divource. NO LAWYERS involved and it doesnt matter if he is for or against the divorce. Check with the family clerks office in the town you married in. I did this divorce and my ex -bastard hubby never responded to any of the paperwork sent to him. I was divorced 90 days from the day I filed. I was awarded child support, full/sole custody and got my maiden name back...all without him saying yes or no to any of it....... Hot Damn!

I think he is giving you a hard time to get even with you or to punish you. so that you cannot remarry. Get a lawyer to represent you and let him handle your problem of letting him sign your divorce papers. whereever he may be. He makes it difficult maybe for onr thing he does not want to get an attorney because he does not want to shoulder the expense of hiring one.
