Absolutley. A friend of mine had a biker wedding at a local wing restaurant and they had a cash bar-keeps the riff-raff from mooching drinks. They also gave colored wrist bands to the people there for the party for the same reason, so if you asked for refills on non-alcoholic drinks or tried to go to the buffet they would know who to serve.

I own a bar, and this is done all the time. Pot-luck style food is a big hit in the Midwest. I've given the hosts drink specials, and that always goes over well.

Oh, sure. That is normal. It is actually a great idea. That way, at least maybe people won't leave the bar so absolutely smashed. You can't keep people from buying too many drinks, but if you give free food, they will at least have food in their stomachs while they drink.

Good job.

Yes, if the party is at a bar most people assume that they will need to pay for their own drinks.

Yes definatly, but maybe provide a few bottles of wine on the tables to get people started. I suggest one bottle per 6 people. If its a buffet style then you dont need to.
Just a suggestion!
