I can see in his eyes that he really likes me. He's even a little nervous around me sometimes. He told me he gets into "moods" that he cant help. Sometimes they last for days, but he wants nobody around, (he's fully functional, tho..goes to work, etc.) When we talk on the phone during these moods, his voice is so different than when he is "normal". I feel bad for him, but I don't know what I'm dealing with and he hasn't felt comfortable telling me yet. I can handle almost anything (bi-polar, etc), but cannot handle the rejection I feel when he goes through this. I know there is nobody else. Also, when he's out of the mood....he seems almost embarrassed and he doesn't want to talk about it and he's back to being the sweet, completely adorable guy I fell for. What is this? Does anybody have any insight???

This sounds like bi-polar or depression. Check out this site for bipolar http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/bipolar.cfm. or this site for depression http://www.nimh.nih.gov/healthinformation/depressionmenu.cfm. You cannot make someone better, they have to get there by themself. Do the research and sit him down and say that you are concerned about his behavior. Show him what you have found and tell him that you are there for him and you just want what is best. Not talking about it is only going to make things worse. Good Luck.

Sounds like he is possibly bi-polar, but for sure depressed. Maybe there's something he can't stop thinking about, something that has happened to him or someone he loved, and when he's in his depressed mood, that's all he thinks about. There is something else that is bothering him though. Hard one.

Sounds like bi-polar... but you seem to know that it is something else...

To me, it sounds like the cycle of addiction. You seem to notice the good times and when they come back... but concentrate on the bad times.. what is happening in the bad times? Is there ANY possibility that he could be hooked on drugs?

I AM NO COUNSELOR BUT IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE A DEPRESSION ISSUE. I WOULD TOTALLY DISREGARD THE COMMENT OF "NOTHING WILL HAPPEN". DEPRESSION CAN LEAD TO LOTS OF "HAPPENINGS" IF NOT TREATED. IF HE IS EMBARRASSED TALKING WITH YOU ABOUT THESE THINGS, I WOULD SUGGEST TALKING WITH A CLOSE SIBLING/PARENT OF HIS TO GET THEIR INTAKE. MAYBE THEY HAVE SEEN THE SIGNS BUT NEED CONFIRMATION FROM AN OUTSIDE SOURCE. I WOULD DITCH THE BI-POLAR THOUGHT, AS PEOPLE WITH THIS CONDITION TEND NOT TO HIDE THIS. THEY ARE OPENLY AGGRESSIVE AND DO NOT CARE IF ANYONE IS AROUND THEM OR NOT. I HAD BEEN MARRIED TO SOMEONE WHOM HAD THAT DISORDER. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT GIVE UP ON HIM. THESE THINGS ARE EASILY TREATED.
GOOD LUCK
