I was a Teaching Assistant in Grad school and I think a good teacher needs passion for the job, patience (because students will test it), obviously good training/education, and the desire to keep learning, your students will only learn the info you teach them, so you want to be up on the most current info

It really depends on what type of teacher you want to be. If you want to be an English teacher you need to have plenty of English credits and excellent marks. The most important thing that I think you need to be a teacher is to be very patient and open minded. Many people of all religions, cultures and morals will be a part of your class. You have to know how to deal with children.
