To fold most of the wheel chairs, grab the middle of the seat at the front and the back of the seat then pull up. Everything will collapse in neatly. You may be able to remove the foot rest by moving the lever at the attachment point.

You should look into aluminum chairs as they are much lighter than the normal ones. You should be able to maintain your balance and lift it into the trunk.

Sadly, this takes practice. The folks providing you with the wheelchair should give you some training on its use. I suggest you get a chair with quick release wheels - it makes it much lighter to get in and out of the car.

Contact the wheelchair manufacturer or a rehabilitation center for instructions.

I would not advise you to store a wheelchair in the car by yourself with one foot.

Is there a brand name/model # on the chair. Try checking the website for the company, or if the chair is rented call them and request instructions.
