Some times it does, that actually depends on how frequently do you store and delete data. what defrag actually does is, it organizes the data of each file closer, that way the time consumed in fetching the information pertaining to a particular file is reduced. So some times it helps. Other wise you might have to look into other ways to boost up the speed of your computer, like uninstalling the junk programs that are on your computer, disk clean up, etc

Defraging really only helps in the loading up programs, loading large data files,(images, video, and others) saving files and the swap files. Not the speed. If you find your hard drive running often, more ram helps the best.

Average home user can get away with defraging one in three months. If you don't install and install programs often, you may starting noticing a lag in about a year.

If you like downloading MP3, and video then delete them then more often.

Before defraging, delete all caches, recycle bin and don't forget deleteing old outlook files and items in the temp folders.

Yes.

As when you download files or install programs, your pc just places them wherever there is space on the hard disk. This means one file can often get split up into as many as 70 files, each containing a small chunk of data. Your computer has to load all 70 files in order to display the one (complete) file.

Defragmenting puts these files in order (or as in order as possible) so the computer doesnt have to search the entire hard disk for them, making the file seem to load a lot quicker.

Absolutely. Defrag will move all your data into nice tight blocks and will piece together fragmented data. This results in the data being accessed faster and performance will be increased.

Yes it does by removing and cleaning excessive files etc it will improve the performance of your computer. I do it regularly but make sure you do a disc cleanup first then follow with a defrag.

It will if you are limited in disk space. In a hard drive with plenty of space it wont make much difference.
