Exhaustion is something that can wear you down. If you are the primary caretaker during the day, be sure to get a nap in sometime in the afternoon. At least one hour, to replace the one you will lose. She is too small to do anything like prop a bottle up at night. Courage, though, she will be old enough soon to hold her own bottle. Nobody tells new parents before hand that they will be frustrated to the brink of insanity, do they? You will be moving from milk to water fairly soon, as well, to prevent rotting of the baby teeth overnight. Good luck, and stay strong. By the way.... all those good vitamins the doctor gave to you during your pregnancy??? You still need some good strong ones in your system. Take care of yourself, or you will be no good to anyone else.

Getting up once a night for a 3 month old is NOT bad! BUT, I would not keep her upright like you have been doing for 30 minutes after a bottle, Just burp her and then put right down. Keeping her upright at night like that encourages her NOT to fall right back asleep. I would let her cry for a few minutes (she might put herself back to sleep) but if not feed her quickly and quietly - keep the room as dark as you can. Burp her a few times during feeding (as you normally do) then immediately put her right back down to sleep. This will help her remember that is it night time and night time is sleepy time!

Good Grief, she thinks its daytime and time to stay awake.
All you want to do is satisfy her hunger, change her, burp her and get her right back to sleep.
I changed her while the bottle warmed, wrapped her up, fed her while rocking, I swear by a rocker, burp in the middle of the bottle and at the end. Try to keep the whole process quiet, you don't want her anymore awake that is necessary. Rock a little more to get back to sleep, into the crib, warm and cozy. Then I ran back to bed. This might be 30 minutes maximum.

I'm like you. Paranoid to lay my kid(s) down after feeding. We had a baby swing, so as soon as she finished eating, we laid her in that. She was upright and being lulled to sleep by the swing. And we could rest at ease.
She is 8 mos now and I'm a little calmer since she is mobile. But there are times when she gets cranky and won't sleep anyother way. Infact, last night, she was crying like something hurt. I checked her out and she was fine. I think she realized that cry is what gets instant attention. Ooops!! Anyway, I put her in her swing. Off because she's too big for it to swing her. And I laid a blanket over her. She calmed down immediately and fell asleep.

you are VERY lucky she only wakes up once a night, even if it is for an hour. By keeping her upright for 30 minutes, yes you could be making her getting used to staying up that long.
Is there a reason you keep her upright for that long. unless your pediatrition has said that she has digestive problems then there is absolutely no reason that you cant lay her back down after feeding and burping her, and go back to sleep yourselves.

I normally leave my son, i dont pick him up.(5 months old) in the cot on his side with a blanket over his body for comfort and a towel under his face and a blanket infront of his face then i just wake up and put the bottle in his mouth and go back to bed and wait until he is finished drinking then i take the bottle away very carefully so that i dont wake him up. I used to do the exact same thing and it just distroyed me.

I think you are doing fine...honestly. Babies' schedules are sooo off until they start sleeping through the night and it is hard to stay up (for mommy and daddy).....and that is why I've always ALWAYS said that the best advice I've ever gotten was to sleep when the baby sleeps. TOO TRUE!
Doesn't always work for working parents, though. Be lucky she is only getting up once (even though that is plenty for you!). My daughter started sleeping through the night at about 3 months, so you shouldn't be far off, I wouldn't think!
